A first-time winner has been crowned in a village's gardening competition.

Sue Simpson, of Park Drive in Worlingham got her green fingers on the top prize in the village's best garden competition, after transforming hers and entering for the first time.

The competition was sponsored by Worlingham Parish Council, with members of the council providing judges.

Stuart Holman of Worlingham Parish Council, said: 'Sue had done all of the work herself and really built her garden up into something special. When she moved in around nine years ago it was a mess, but she put so much effort in and single-handedly gave it a real transformation.

'This year we had a number of new entrants which made the judging very difficult, however it is always nice to crown a new champion.'

She received a trophy and a certificate, as well as a £50 donation to a local children's charity of her choice.
