First look at Damien Hirst’s Houghton Hall exhibition

A series of paintings and sculptures by Damien Hirst have been installed at Norfolk’s Houghton Hall.

Part of the Colour Space exhibition, the artwork will be on display in the State Rooms at Houghton Hall from Sunday, March 25 to Sunday, July 15.

This will be the first time the new series of paintings have been shown to the public. They develop upon the artist’s Spot Paintings, some of his most recognisable work.

One of the UK’s most controversial artists, Damien Hirst is known for exploring the themes of science, religion, life and death.

Seven of his most famous sculptures have also been put on display in the grounds, including the Virgin Mother (2005-2006), which was shown in the courtyard of the Royal Academy and Charity (2002-2003) which was installed at Hoxton Square in 2003 and outside the Royal West of England Academy of Art in 2011.

Several other pieces have been placed inside the house, including Anatomy of an Angel (2008) and two smaller kinetic sculptures from Hirst’s “levitation” series, featuring air blowers and table tennis balls.
