Fire crews were called out to rescue two sheep from the river in Norwich.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident in Wilberforce Road shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday.
A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they had initially thought there was one sheep needing rescuing but upon arrival discovered there was also a second sheep in the water.
Fire crews from Sprowston and the Urban Search and Rescue teams attended and were at the scene for about an hour.
Both sheep were rescued and were safe and well following the incident, the spokesman said.
