Firefighters have revisited the remains of an historic pub and village cottage damaged by a devastating blaze.

One crew inspected the site of The Ingham Swan and neighbouring gallery and cottage on Sea Palling Road just before 7am on Tuesday, September 12.

Fire crews were originally called to the blaze at around 2am on Monday, September 11.

No-one was injured in the fire and the occupants of the gallery and cottage were out of the county when it started, but have been informed.

Crews from Stalham, Martham, Wroxham, North Walsham, Sprowston and Mundesley tackled the fire, along with a Water Carrier from Hethersett, Control Unit from Wymondham and a ladder platform from Great Yarmouth.

The pub tweeted that no-one had been hurt but the building had 'suffered extensive damage'.

Daniel Smith, chef patron of the Ingham Swan, said: 'We are trying to collect our thoughts. Our immediate priority is to take care of our team and the customers who have bookings with us over the coming weeks and months. We are confident that the Ingham Swan will be back better and stronger than ever before.

'Meanwhile, we will be in touch with our customers who had booked with us at the Ingham Swan just as soon as we can.

'On behalf of the whole team at the Ingham Swan, we'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and support received so far, it's been overwhelming. We'll focus on re-building just as soon as we can.'

The Ingham Swan is a former coaching inn that has stood next to the parish church for 600 years.

The building was constructed in the 14th Century and is the largest historic building in the village.

Owner and Chef Patron Daniel Smith and his business partner, Gregory Adjemian, took on the management of The Ingham Swan in 2010 and before purchasing the freehold in 2013.

In September 2016 Chef Patron Daniel Smith appeared on the BBC's Great British Menu.

Crews remained at the scene after the flames were put out.
