Firefighters were called to remove a ring from a man at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The crew was called to the accident and emergency department of the hospital shortly before 11pm on Thursday where firefighters used a ring-cutter to remove the titanium ring.
A hospital spokesman said he could not comment on the specific details of the case, but said while the hospital has equipment to remove most jewellery, it does not have equipment to cut titanium and so asked the fire service for assistance.
One fire crew from North Earlham attended.
A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: 'Doctors asked us to attend and there was a medical reason why we needed to be there.'
