Firefighters were called to a Breckland Council office in Thetford today following reports of smoke.

Staff at Breckland House, in St Nicholas Street, were evacuated from the building after a broken extractor fan caused some smoke on the sixth floor at about 7.30am today.

Fire crews from Thetford and East Harling attended the scene along with an aerial ladder platform from Bury in Suffolk. They conducted a search of the building using ladders and a thermal image camera.

A Breckland Council spokesman said fewer than 20 people had to be evacuated but that they were back in the building by 9am.
