A fire investigation has begun to determined the cause of a barn fire near Methwold last night.

Eleven firecrews were called to the barn blaze at Wissington, which broke out at 6pm.

The chicken farm is owned by the charity Grace of Jesus Christ Crusade and the 20 metre by 10 metre barn was badly damaged by the blaze.

Firecrews, including an aerial turn table ladder, extinguished the blaze but the wooden barn was left with substantial damage, particularly to the roof.

Firefighters keep a watching brief on a barn throughout the night.

Workers for the charity were not available to speak to and it is believed they live abroad.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said asbestos from the building was being carried on the wind.
