Fire inside stone tower in Great Yarmouth

Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a stone tower on the old town wall in Great Yarmouth.

Crews were called to the scene at 6.47am on Sunday when a fire was reported in a derelict tower.

It is believed it was started when a stack of wooden crates was set alight. Police confirmed squatters had been living in the tower.

There was no structural damage to the building and police sealed off the entrance.

Meanwhile, crews were also called to a fire in a domestic building in Gorleston at 2.33am on Sunday.

Two fire engines from Yarmouth and Gorleston extinguished the blaze.
