Firefighters were called to deal with a fire in a block of flats on the outskirts of Norwich this morning.

The fire, in the stairwell of a block of flats in Shipfield, in the north of the city, started at about 4.45am and firefighters were at the scene until about 6am.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that no flats were involved in the fire and nobody needed to be rescued.

Fire crews from Sprowston, Carrow and Earlham along with the aerial ladder platform were called to the scene, and hose reel jets were used to put out the fire.

The East of England Ambulance Service attended the scene but nobody needed to be taken to hospital.
