The Dereham Christmas Lights switch on team have asked the public not to panic after a series of fire engines were called to the centre of town.
Two fire engines arrived on Church Street, just off the Market Place, at 1pm this afternoon.
Witnesses at the scene said they believed the engines had been called to a fire caused by a drier in a residential property.
Those in the house were evacuated to the nearby Wetherspoons pub as the firemen entered the building.
With the Christmas switch on event in full swing, the road closures had to be moved so as to allow the crews to get to the property.
Christmas switch on volunteers asked that the public did not panic as no one had been harmed.
