Danny Boyle, whose hits include Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and The Beach, is shooting for a comedy written by Richard Curtis, based on a world where iconic band The Beatles do not exist.

The Suffolk-based writer behind Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill was also on set on during filming on Tuesday evening.

The scene being shot by the seafront is described as a stunt accident scene, and crowds gathered around barriers in Pier Road and Pier Gardens to watch the drama unfold.

A stuntman on a bicycle could be seen rehearsing a collision with a bus, with wires pulling him through the air on to a crash mat.

It is rumoured that the plot revolves around a person who, after falling into a coma, wakes to a world in which The Beatles do not exist.

Suffolk singer-songwriter sensation, Ed Sheeran, is also rumoured to be featuring in the film in a cameo role.

Mr Boyle has previously presided over star-studded casts including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, James Franco and Emma Stone, and his latest film features Lily James, from Baby Driver and Darkest Hour, and Eastenders actor, Himesh Patel.

The production has already shot scenes in Lowestoft, Halesworth and at the Ocean Room and the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston.

Angela Girling, who owns the Doggy Diner on Piers Gardens, said the film could bring long term benefits to the town.

She said: “It is such a great thing for the town. Most people are positive but some people are complaining about the roads being shut, but this could put Gorleston on the map.

“The crew have been coming in a lot and for teas and coffees and it has all been very exciting.

“You don’t know what impact the film could have on this area in the long term.”

On Tuesday, drones could be seen flying above the set, however, it is believed more of the action will be shot tonight (Wednesday), with filming to end at 5am tomorrow (Thursday).

The production is expected to continue filming in the area over the coming weeks.
