Fifty children turned up at the Corn Hall in Diss this weekend to dance their socks off and secure a place in the popular pantomime Aladdin.

LP Creatives and Diss Corn Hall had invited boys and girls aged from seven to fourteen with strong dance and drama skills to audition.

Director Tom Beard said: 'We are looking for children with a lot of character that can keep up with the steps and show enthusiasm and smile - we like happy children.

'We are really happy to be bringing the first professional panto to Diss.

'We're not in competition with the Theatre Royal in Norwich - we're just looking to provide the local community with a great show on their doorstep.'

The much loved and well known panto will also be featuring a full cast of professional actors and dancers when it opens on December 16.

Children unfamiliar with the story will be wondering if street urchin Aladdin can win the heart of the beautiful Princess Jasmine carefully guarded by the emperor.

And will he be able to learn the power of the lamp with the help of his friends Sneaky Beaky, the Spirit of the Ring and of course the all powerful Genie?

Standing in Aladdin's way is the dastardly wizard Abanazar – but never mind the audience can help their hero on his way by booing and hissing at the villain.

And remember, Aladdin's washerwoman mum Widow Twankey is on hand to make sure things stay on track and her son can save them both from a life of dirty work.

With plenty of sparkle this marvellous mix of magic, comedy and adventure looks set to ensure some good old traditional panto family fun this Christmas.
