There was a real 'festive feel' as hundreds of people descended on a popular town centre.
A snow machine sent flakes glistening into the night sky as Beccles was lit up for Christmas.
With Father Christmas, reindeer, rides, pantomime characters, singers, dancers, a Samba dance band and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adding to the entertainment, about 60 stalls and lots of fun attracted the crowds to Beccles.
With the mayor of Beccles, Hugh Taylor, joined by the cast of the town's pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk to switch on the lights, there were loud cheers as the switch-on was enjoyed by hundreds of people.
Beach Radio presenter Paul Carter and the Beach Bunny started the countdown before the town burst into colour.
Running alongside the switch-on event was the launch of the Beccles Christmas Tree Trail, which saw 58 businesses display their trees in their windows.
Among the delighted organising committee was Janet John, chief executive of the North East Suffolk Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). She said: 'There is a real festive feel around the town.'
