They're welcome visitors into many back gardens.

And now a specially-designed bird house has now been donated to Wymondham's Browick Road Primary School in order to attract feathered friends and teach pupils about the importance of bird life.

The birdhouse was designed by artist Graham Swift, who took his inspiration from Second World war-era aircraft identification playing cards.

It was one of 15 displayed at Norwich's into Chapelfield shopping centre as part of national tour last May, alongside 'big bird wings' artworks by pupils, including those from Browick Road.

Pauline McMullan, the school's headteacher, said she was delighted with the new addition to the school.

She said: 'The children really enjoy being outside and learning about nature and we now run both a gardening and wildlife club, which really benefited from our involvement in the project last year and all the advice and bird-encouraging tips and treats we received.'

She added: 'It was great for the children to see their Big Birdwings on display at intu Chapelfield and they're so excited that we now have our very own birdhouse at the school.

'I'm sure it will be a huge source of further inspiration for children, staff and parents.'

Rebecca Downie, intu Chapelfield's assistant marketing manager, said: 'What is really exciting is that the children who took part in our activities last year - either as part of a school's project or through our kids' club - have clearly taken the message to heart and are encouraging happy, healthy animal and bird life in their back gardens and school grounds.'

Browick Road pupils were also given a talk from team members at intu Chapelfield about the work of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and giving nature a home.

They were then presented with packs of bird goodies which included bird feeders, nesting boxes, bug biome, nuts, seeds and a hedgehog hotel.
