Police have expressed fears that a runaway dog could cause a car crash on the notorious Acle Straight.
There have been five sightings of a dog running on or near the major route to Great Yarmouth since the start of July.
PC Andy Mason, from Broadland Police, said while officers wanted to reunite the dog with its owner, it was also a matter of safety.
He added: 'It is a dual danger, to itself but particularly to the public and road users.
'The concern is the dog is going to run into the road and someone might brake suddenly.
'We know what the Acle Straight is like. One car would go into the other and you'd end up having a road traffic collision with one car going into other.'

He has been fostered by Kelly Hare since February. She helps run the Safe Rescue for Dogs charity, which saved Bertie from a Romanian dog shelter, where he had been stuck for three years.
There have been high profile media exposures of poor conditions for animal pounds in the EU country, which has a problem with stray and feral dogs.
Ms Hare explained Bertie is a very nervous dog and will run away if approached. She said this was probably down to his mistreatment, adding: 'He was found in the corner facing the wall. There are lots of fights in there and it's very loud.'
Ms Hare, who cares for up to 15 dogs at a time, said Bertie bolted and ran away as he was being walked by her partner on a lead.
After an extensive search Ms Hare registered him as missing with the Dog Lost website.
In June there were sightings near the rugby club and in Fastolff Avenue, Gorleston.
In early July he was spotted regularly near the Vauxhall Roundabout and a feeding station and trap was set up nearby.
The trap works by luring the dog into a cage with food and as the animal walks on a footpad the door closes, humanely securing the dog.
In July he was spotted five times on the Acle Straight and police went and searched for him.
He was once spotted running across the road and another time running along the railway line.
