A Lowestoft father has vowed to raise funds and awareness for a charity which has supported his family ever since his daughter's birth.

Darcy-Rae Winser was born in October 2015 with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and ever since the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) has been a constant source of support for parents Alex and Candy.

Now, Mr Winser has vowed to show his gratitude to the charity for its support by fundraising for their cause.

He has already completed a gruelling 10km obstacle course and says he plans to continue his efforts, having already raised more than £1,100.

Mr Winser, a 28-year-old scaffolder, completed the Bear Grylls Survival Race in London along with his 25-year-old brother-in-law Tom Pennington as the first part of his fundraising.

He said: 'CLAPA has really helped us a lot, so I really wanted to do something to thank them and doing these types of events is the way most people do it.

'The challenge was very gruelling. I didn't think I'd be able to finish it, but we both just kept on going and got to the end.'

While both men finished the race - with Darcy cheering them on - Mr Winser says his fundraising will not stop there, with a JustGiving page remaining open for donations.

He added: 'I just want to do all I can to thank the association, so I'm looking at doing other events in future. I'm looking into perhaps doing a half marathon and maybe even a marathon one day.

'The charity do so much for families like ours, helping to put smiles on people's faces, so I'm keen to try and help not only raise money, but awareness too, helping to get the name out there.'

A cleft lip and/or palate is a facial disfigurement babies can be born with when part of the lip does not develop entirely.

A cleft lip can range from a notch in part of the lip or a complete separation of the upper lip.
