A father-of-two has been acquitted of raping a woman as he walked her home from a nightclub.

Ian Spendlove was found not guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court following a week-long trial.

Spendlove, 23, of Keel Close, Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft, had denied raping the woman in July last year as he walked her back from The Edge nightclub in Lowestoft.

The court had heard that the woman had a lot to drink on the night in question and accepted holding Spendlove's hand and that she might have kissed him.

However it was alleged that she made it clear that she did not want to have sex with him.

Giving evidence Spendlove said that at the time of the alleged rape he was separated from the mother of his two children, but had been hoping to get back with her.
