Fans of old tractors and steam engines have again made a beeline to Stradsett Park, near Downham Market, for the 39th vintage vehicle rally.
The National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club East Anglia has run the rally for the past 38 years, and many of the visitors have been attending with their families for decades.
The popular event, which, by kind permission of Sir Jeremy and Lady Bagge, is held in the superb setting of Stradsett Park, attracts thousands of visitors to look at a range of vintage vehicles and enjoy other attractions including heavy horses.
Attendance records for the two-day event were broken last year, but rally organiser Gordon Carson said the wet weather may have deterred some people from visiting yesterday.
He said: “It was very disappointing with the weather, as it’s been dry recently, and it’s a year’s worth of work involved.
“But the forecast for Monday is better, so I urge people in the area to come along. We are supporting the East Anglian Air Ambulance this year.”
The rally has something for all enthusiasts, with bygone displays featuring blacksmiths’ tools, dolls’ prams, model aircraft and railways and vintage lawn mowers, being particularly popular.
Enthusiasts can also enjoy classic cars, vintage tractors, pre-1950s tractors, motorcycles, horticultural machines, military vehicles, heavy horses, steam engines, stationary engines and a variety of trade stalls and catering.
There’s also an 80ft by 40ft marquee with a bar and live entertainment, fairground rides, and ring displays.
Today’s attractions include the grand parade of motorcycles, cars, commercial and horticultural, at 10.45am, the parade of pre-1950s tractors at 11.30am, and the parade of steam engines at 12.30pm.
The rally runs from 10am to 5pm today; adult ticket prices have been kept at £5 and under-16s get in free. There is free parking and a free programme.
