The family of popular family and charity man David Woodruff who died earlier this year have thanked people for their support.

Mr Woodruff, who died aged 79 on March 11, spent much of his free time working with the Lowestoft and Beccles Lions, where he was a member for more than 45 years.

Since his funeral, the Mr Woodruff's family said more than £1,500 has been raised for good causes in his name after people were asked to donate to the Lions Club or the cardiac unit at the James Paget Hospital.

Jeremy Woodruff, Mr Woodruff's son, paid tribute to the public and thanked them for their generosity and said the donations were still coming in.

In 1996 Mr Woodruff helped organise a shoebox appeal for children in Bosnia and Serbia in Lowestoft, successfully receiving enough gifts from members of the public to send more than 100,000 shoeboxes in trucks.

He would later write a book about his time in the war-torn region, an experience his son said 'humbled and moved him.'
