The family behind Wymondham's tidy train station and neighbouring diner have scooped an award for their efforts.

Simon Pilgrim, wife Kate and mother Jennifer run the Station Bistro and the taxi company next door, as well as planting colourful flowers, hanging baskets and tidying up after passengers using the platforms.

At a ceremony last month, the trio were awarded the Best Small Station Award at Abellio Greater Anglia's 2015 Station Adopters Awards.

Kate Pilgrim said: 'We were so pleased to receive this much recognised award here at the station.

'We all work very hard in making the station look clean and tidy, and we are responsible for the planting tubs & hanging baskets year round. We're very proud to have the award on display in the bistro for all to see.'

The trio took over the station lease in 2011 as a family.

Mrs Pilgrim added: 'It's been hard work but we have continued to maintain the station & so very pleased to have all our work noticed.'

Andrew Goodrum, Greater Anglia's customer service director, said: 'The flowers at Wymondham were stunning this year, the hanging baskets were training almost to the floor they were so successful.

'Wymondham is a great example of how a station can become a focal point for a community and how local volunteers can really stamp their own mark on it.'

The rail franchise has 203 volunteers, or so-called station adopters, working at 90 stations across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
