The family of a 23-year-old man who died on New Year's Day following a disturbance in Toft Monks, near Beccles, has paid tribute to him.

Lee Goldsmith died at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston after he was taken there by ambulance after an incident by the White Lion pub.

Mr Goldsmith was form Toft Monks and this afternoon his grieving parents issued a tribute to him through Norfolk police.

The tribute says: 'Mr and Mrs Goldsmith are devastated following the loss of their youngest son, Lee, on New Year's Day.

'Lee, aged 23, was a treasured son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

'The family request they are permitted this time in private to grieve their loss.'

Two men, aged 45 and 38, were arrested at the scene on New Year's Day in connection with the incident involving Mr Goldsmith's death and have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The investigation is being led by the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team.

Police have said that one of the men arrested was an off-duty Norfolk police officer.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the officer suspended pending the outcome of enquiries.
