Brian Mitchell was found on the side of the High Street at 12.50am on Wednesday, November 15, after being struck by a vehicle.

A CT scan conducted last week at James Paget University Hospital, in Gorleston, revealed a severe bleed on the brain.

The 86-year-old has been recovering at the hospital since the incident having also sustained a broken wrist and fractured kneecap.

Graham Mitchell has spoken of his father's worsening state and the shattering impact on his family.

He said: 'My father had been slipping in and out of consciousness for over a week.

'The terrible haemorrhage is the same as having a stroke. His body won't recover it will just shut down.

'He has lost the use of the arm that was broken when he was hit and is on an IV.

'They suggested moving him to Addenbrooke's for surgery but doctors believe transporting him would bring on a cardiac arrest.

'There is no treatment plan - the bleed had been there for some time and the pressure will kill him.

'It's been a horrible weekend trying to come to terms with the fact my father's life has been shortened by some reckless idiot.'

Graham added: 'It's the worst time of year to get news like this.

'For my 84-year-old mother every day visiting at the hospital is the worst groundhog day you could ever experience.

'It's heartbreaking.'

Once again Graham is appealing for members of the public with information to come forward and help the police.

He said: 'I feel that someone has got to know this person.

'While they will be getting ready for Christmas we are getting ready to bury our father.'

While police have seized a vehicle thought to be connected with the incident no arrests have been made.

Witnesses or anybody who has any information regarding the incident is asked to call Lowestoft Police on 101 quoting reference 'CAD 6 of November 15'.
