A family bungee jump, inspired by a woman's battle with motor neurone disease, has raised more than 6,300 for the MND Association.

Janet Keeble, from Starston, was diagnosed with MND in 2011 and this year her daughter Meryl and sons Daryl, Joel, who both run Harleston Tyre Services, and Ross took part in a 160ft bungee jump in aid of the charity.

They jumped at Grafham Water Park, near Huntingdon, in September and have now presented a cheque for 6,364 to the MND Association.

Meryl, 30, who had to face her fear of heights to complete the jump, said: 'We are all extremely grateful to those who sponsored us. The money raised is going towards research into MND in the hope that one day they will find a cure for this horrific disease.'

Daryl, 38, and Joel, 35, who live in Alburgh and Wortwell respectively, have been running the family business, Harleston Tyre Services, since their father, Keith, retired to become his wife's full-time carer. Ross, 33, lives in Yorkshire.

MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles. MND can affect how people walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
