The choir of around 120 singers of all ages came together for a workshop day hosted by Fakenham Choral Society.

The event took place on Saturday, Febraury 10. Composer Will Todd led the choir as they performed one of his popular pieces of Jazz, Mass in Blue.

Over the past few years, the young composer has gained an international reputation and is in demand all over the world to lead workshops and performances.

Mr Todd is well known for his church music and composed a special piece which was performed by a children's choir at Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee service.

Mass in Blue combines Mr Todd's love of church music with his passion for jazz.

The musical day started with a warm up and learning session with Fakenham Choral Society's musical director, Janet Kelsey.

Mr Todd then took over the day. Around half of the singers taking part had never sung Mass in Blue before, but with more experienced singers scattered among them and with teaching and support, everyone had an inspirational and memorable day.

For the early evening performance the choir was accompanied by professional musicians; Jim Fleeman, Justin Myers, Jimmy Jefford and soprano soloist Rosamund Walton.

Michelle Bishop, from Fakenham Choral Society, said: 'Their skill and enthusiasm raised the level of the performance to greater heights and gave the choir confidence to play their part.

'The small audience who had braved the cold February weather, the singers and most important of all Mr Todd himself, were delighted with performance and everyone went away on a very high note of enthusiasm.'

After their day to remember, Fakenham Choral Society returned to rehearsals for their next concert, a complete contrast in musical style called 'The Marvellous Mr Purcell'.

The choir will be accompanied by the Norwich Baroque on authentic period instruments.

The concert will be held at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 17 at Fakenham Parish Church. Tickets priced at £12 for over 18's. They are available by calling 01485 544335 or purchasing on the door.
