A group of staff and their families from Fakenham Medical Centre have walked nearly 50 miles to raise money for a charity that supports bereaved children and young people in Norfolk.

The team of 26 people ranging from ages 5 to 55 walked between Cromer and Hunstanton to raise money for Nelson's Journey which included going through Peddars Way, forcing them to navigate their way through cliff tops, shingle beaches and woodland.

The charity was chosen by GP Ben Coghill, whose experience in the armed forces and in general practice at supporting bereaved children and young people encouraged him to choose them.

He said: 'We all feel extremely proud to have pulled together a group of colleagues and motivate each other to complete such a long walk in aid of Nelson's Journey.

'My own experiences of seeing the effects of bereavement on children and how devastating it can be spurred me on to want to raise a significant amount of money to help support them.'

The walk took two days to complete and raised a total of £4204.50 over a period of 6 months thanks to donations from friends, family and patients at the surgery.

The money raised for the charity will be enough to send 16 children and young people to a therapeutic residential weekend where they will meet others who have been bereaved, learn coping mechanisms for their challenging emotions and remember the person who has died.
