A Fakenham charity manager has thanked the community for its support after the closure of its town centre cafe.
The First Focus Cafe, which opened in Millers Walk last year, has closed.
While many people may be sorry to see the closure of yet another popular Fakenham cafe, First Focus manager April Simnor said there are many positive things connected to the fact that it stood and served the community for a time.
She also spoke to reassure people that the charity is continuing to work hard for the community, operating for four days a week in the Scout Hall, on Oak Street.
Mrs Simnor said: “I would like to thank the public, volunteers, staff and anyone that has supported First Focus over the years.
“First Focus Café was a great success and we have sadly chosen collectively to close as other areas within the community are needing vital support.
“I would value all community backing and support to make First Focus HUB and the new outreach work as successful.”
The First Focus Cafe was set up to help promote the charity and direct people to its community hub behind the library, on Oak Street.
Mrs Simnor said some visitors were not even aware First Focus Hub existed and of all the things it provided and after visiting the cafe many went on to take part in the charity’s clubs, support groups and activities there and make use of the produce outlet and community fridge.
All the cafe has provided will still be available for four days a week in the Scout Hall in Oak Street.
Mrs Simnor said: “The café was a great success. First Focus has chosen to close it as other areas within the community are needing vital support.”
First Focus works closely with many organisations and hosts a variety of clubs and support groups to help vulnerable people.
In 2015 the charity was under threat of closure, but support, including a £3,000 grant raised by the EDP and Fakenham and Wells Times’ joint Let’s Fight for Fakenham campaign, ensured it survived.
First Focus is looking for individuals that are interested in a Samaritans training day on May 4 at First Focus. Any business who would like to send a delegate can call 01328 855083 or e mail firstname.lastname@example.org
