Final preparations for an event promoting a town's shopping experience are taking place.

Eye's shopping day extravaganza, called 'Eye's Wide Open', which will start from 9.30am on Saturday has drawn together community groups to highlight what is on offer in the town.

Town Hall coordinator councillor Maria Ford said: 'More groups are wanting to put up a display about their activities covering everything from volunteers to help the fire service through to the WI and our Growing Local Group up at the allotment. That will be alongside information about the town hall's restoration and new ideas for the town from the council.'

The community centre will hold a table top sale, a Fairtrade shop will be open in the church and the police will be giving crime prevention advice.

A treasure trail around the town centre has been finalised. An antiques roadshow will be running – offering valuations for anything that is brought in. Hucklesby Architects are running an open office with a chance to call in and discuss ideas you might have with an architect.
