A Royal Navy bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion at Holme Dunes.

Between 1pm and 2pm on Easter Sunday, an area of the dunes at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve was cordoned off by bomb disposal experts and the coastguard.

Chris Illman had been visiting the dunes at the time, and said: 'A Royal Navy bomb disposal team and the coastguard cordoned off a large section of the beach, and made a controlled explosion.'

Ammunition ranging from small arms rounds to mortar and tank shells are frequently exposed by the tide around the north-west Norfolk shoreline.
