The exhibition features the work of British abstract painter John McLean and explores John's work from design to the finished stained glass windows, unpacking the creative process behind the windows and highlighting the steep learning curve of working with glass rather than paint.

Part of a seven-year project, the three windows form a single work of art, conceived as a vibrant journey from the solemn dignity of the cathedral's nave into the architectural excitement of the north transept.

The windows are designed using a chromatic sequence and simple shapes to lead the viewer on a spiritual journey.

The Rev Canon Jeremy Haselock, Precentor and Vice-Dean at Norwich Cathedral, said: 'In perhaps the most prestigious exhibition we have hosted so far, we are proud to give our visitors an insight into the colour-filled world of John McLean, Britain's greatest living abstract expressionist painter.

'This show gives us all a glimpse of the creative process which will culminate in the installation and dedication of McLean's triptych of stunning stained-glass windows at the end of this month.'

The new stained glass windows are due to be installed at the cathedral this month and will be dedicated by the Bishop of Lynn at a special Evensong service at 3.30pm on Sunday, March 30.

The exhibition at the Hostry runs until Sunday, April 27. Admission is free and the exhibition is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, and Sunday from midday to 3pm.
