A former Norwich City striker has been brushing shoulders with a major Hollywood star as he films an upcoming documentary.
Leon McKenzie met actor and former wrestler Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, at the end of last month for his upcoming documentary film, Ten Count.
The documentary focuses on issues of mental health which Mr McKenzie has championed throughout the past few years.
The former Canary has spoken to a range of ex-sportsmen and women, with the US action star the latest interviewee.
“I thought he’d be somebody who’d be impossible to speak to, but I wrote him a letter and for him to respond the way he did was fantastic,” he said.
“He came back and said he’d love to be a part of it and that he found what I’d written inspiring, it was great to hear.”
Mr McKenzie announced that he’d spoken to The Rock through social media and posted a video of himself and Mr Johnson on Instagram to promote the film.
“When you think of these big stars you assume they’re going to be arrogant but not Dwayne. He was lovely I spoke to him for about half an hour and we really connected,” he said.
“He’s incredible and has been supportive of the film and has had some extremely kind words to say.”
The former canary admitted he’d been shocked at what some people said.
He said: “I’d be interviewing them and they’d say something and I’d think, ‘wow, I can’t believe they’ve just said that’.
“It’s going to bring a better understanding to what people are going through, it’s going to help a lot of people.”
Although Mr McKenzie has spoken to many people already he said he has a few more big names to speak to.
“I’m going to Vegas to see somebody there, I can’t say who though. Nobody knew about The Rock until I was out there,” he added.
Mr McKenzie has accomplished more than most in life but says his best is yet to come.
“Despite everything that I’ve done, I think this is going to be my biggest achievement to date.
“The films just gone from strength to strength, it’s going to be massive. I’ve been seeing about getting an agent in LA so don’t be surprised if you see me on American TV.”
