A whale has been sighted off Hunstanton this afternoon.

Passengers and crew on board pleasure boat the Wash Monster saw spouts of water from the creature around 1,000yds off the beach.

Captain William Searle said: 'It looked like it was a large whale, the spouts were 12 - 15ft high.'

Mr Searle said he did not see the actual whale. He said the animal was estimated to be in around 15ft of water and was near a deeper gully which would enable it to avoid being stranded as the tide ebbed.

Two weeks ago, a fin whale died after it swam up the river to King's Lynn.Hunstanton has seen a number of strandings in recent years, with the creatures washing up under the cliffs and on Old Hunstanton Beach.
