Bruce Weetman was disgusted by what he found at the Warren Car Park in Thetford Forest after barbecue trays, food packs and household waste was left on the grass.

Mr Weetman, from Brandon, said: "I'm really disgusted at what the motorhomes and camper vans left at the Warren car park.

"I am a motorhomer and belong to a forum. We have a rule that we leave nothing except footprints and take nothing except pictures.

"The people who camped at this popular spot this last weekend really did themselves proud, I dread to think what their home looks like."

The car park is owned by The Crown Estate. It said that it is aware of illegal fly-tipping at the site and it arranges for rubbish to be cleared and will do so if it happens again.

Mr Weetman added: "Why could they not take their rubbish home with them? After all they have enough room in their motorhomes.

"This kind of thing is getting more prevalent in the forest and needs to be stamped on before it gets out of hand.

"This was supposedly civilised people who live in houses, maybe yours or my next door neighbour, some of the stuff they left could be dangerous to dogs being walked in the area or wildlife or even children.

"The mind boggles at their attitude to our countryside."

The Forestry Commission, which owns the majority of Thetford Forest, spends £100,000 each year clearing rubbish that has been left behind by visitors.

Nicky Russell, Thetford Forest ranger, said: "Most of our visitors take their litter with them but don't leave your rubbish in the forest, please take it with you. We spend £100,000 a year clearing up other people's rubbish, don't be a rubbish visitor."

Thetford Forest sees more than one million visitors every year and covers 47,000 acres across the Norfolk and Suffolk border.
