Plumstead Road is to remain closed for another four days past schedule as work to the NDR continues.

The reopening of Plumstead Road which had been scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed until early on Monday, February 19.

The road has been closed east of Thorpe End since mid-January to complete its connection to the A1270 Norwich Northern Distributor Road.

Although the carriageway realignment and roundabouts have been completed, the closure has to remain in place to allow completion of outstanding works including footway/cycleway surfacing, signs, white lines and some drainage. This is because temporary traffic lights cannot be used close to the Plumstead Road level crossing.

The shuttle bus serving Thorpe End will continue to run until Saturday, February 17, and the road will reopen in time for the morning journey to work on Monday, February 19.

The bridge carrying Middle Road across the A1270 NDR dual carriageway is expected to be complete around the end of this week, with the surfacing of the footway/cycleway scheduled for Friday. Further work is also required on the verges and private means of access.

Smee Lane will close permanently once Middle Road is open to traffic, but the timing depends upon the timing of the Middle Road reopening. Low Road will stay open until Plumstead Road is back in use next week (see above), when it will also close for good.

Norfolk County Council and Balfour Beatty have apologised for the delay in reopening these roads. The dates and times of the Smee Lane and Low Road closures will be announced as soon as finalised.
