Homeowners in the east who live near major roads could receive free double glazing to cut noise levels.

About 400 homeowners in the region will be offered upgrades to windows, bi-folding doors and patio doors in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and studies by spring 2020 as part of the Highways England initiative.

Funding for the scheme is part of a £39m special fund to reduce noise levels for those living near motorways and major A roads.

Ian Holmes, principal noise advisor at Highways England, said: 'We're committed to tackling traffic noise across the country and I'd urge anyone who receives a letter from us to get in touch - the scheme is entirely free, from the initial survey to the installation of the new windows and ventilation units.'

Homeowners will be contacted over the next few months. More details are available here.
