A brand new elevated viewing platform will give birdwatchers a bird’s eye view of one of the country’s most beautiful nature reserves.
The platform in the Nunnery Lakes nature reserve in Thetford was officially opened on Thursday, February 7 by mayor Roy Brame and councillor Brenda Canham after a town council grant helped fund the project.
Made of oak and three metres high, the platform allows for 360 degree viewing along the river Little Ouse and over the restored flood meadows and lakes.
Ian Henderson, Nunnery Lakes reserve manager for the British Trust for Ornithology who look after the site, said: “It is great to see the viewing platform in place on the reserve.
“I always thought the views it could give would bring a new perspective to the reserve but it will also allow many more people to see the wildlife that uses the flood meadows and help us monitor this too.”
