Four offence notices for fishing illegally on the opening day of a fishing season have been issued.
Environment Agency Anglia put a post on Twitter on Monday that said 39 anglers were checked for fishing licences at River Bure Valley with the Broads Authority on the opening day of the coarse fishing season.
Coarse fish are a group of freshwater fish that include perch, carp and bream, but do not include salmon.
Government regulations prevent fishing for coarse fish on any river in England and Wales from March 15 to June 15.
Anyone fishing with rod and line in England and Wales must hold a rod fishing licence and comply with the regional and national byelaws.
Some waterways are called canals but are actually rivers so are subject to the same season. These are the Fossdyke Canal, the Louth Canal, the Horncastle Canal and the Dilham and North Walsham Canal.
