Determined landowners behind a controversial wind turbine bid in a north Norfolk beauty spot should see a decision on their application made by planners tomorrow.

The owners of green-energy company Genatec want to build a turbine on land at Pond Farm in Bodham, near Holt.

An application for a 60m turbine is currently in an appeals process, with a public inquiry planned for June.

But members of North Norfolk District Council's development committee will decide the future of an application for a smaller 40m turbine on the same site.

Planning officers have again recommended councillors refuse the application, highlighting the proposed turbine's impact on historic buildings such as Baconsthorpe Castle. They also said it would harm the landscape, and public benefits did not outweigh the harm of a wind turbine on the site.

Developer David Mack said he was not hopeful of a positive outcome from district council planners, but added: 'We are still hopeful that we will eventually gain consent for the turbine because it is such a good site.' There were 977 objections to the latest application, and 175 in favour.

Concerns included the proximity to homes, damage to the landscape, and its effect on tourism.

Households living nearby have set up a campaign against the project, Say No To That Turbine. Supporters said the turbine would add investment to the community.

The district council turned down Genatec's application for a larger turbine in 2012, which the developers claimed would provide energy for more than 600 homes.

In February last year the council took the case to the High Court which said the inspector's decision was legally flawed. Genatec then went to the Court of Appeal, which said the Macks' case had 'no reasonable prospects of success'.
