More than two dozen cockerels were heartlessly dumped by the side of the road in Kelling, near Holt.

They were spotted by motorist Karen Goldsmith, who was driving along Wood Lane towards the Holt/Cley Road.

She said on social media: “Poor things look a bit cold and wet.”

Sadie Morgan, from Fakenham, is now looking to rehome them.

She said: “Two people picked them up from the side of the road in sections of 13. I have just started taking in animals, but there are still 13 looking for homes. People in rescue are inundated by unwanted cockerels through irresponsible breeding.

“We are also looking for any Heras fencing, as they are currently in makeshift shelters.”

Fresh Start for Hens, a voluntary organisation, has also posted a link to the appeal on social media.

A spokesman said: “13 more lads looking for their harem.”
