Members of some of Wymondham's reading groups gathered last Saturday at the library to help launch two Town Reads.

The promotion forms part of the Great Reading Takeaway – a countywide effort to encourage residents to broaden their reading diet, and try a book that they might not normally pick up.

The Takeaway is themed on books from different countries. Wymondham has decided to look East and is inviting people to spice up their visit to the library with two books that capture the colour and complexities of contemporary India.

'Six Suspects' by Vikas Swarup (author of the book that inspired the hit film Slumdog Millionaire) is a crime novel while 'Saraswati Park' by Anjali Joseph pulls the reader with wit and delicacy into the heart of middle-class Bombay. Anjali is a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing at the UEA and has been voted one of this country's best new novelists under 40.

The aim of the Town Reads is to get people sharing the same book at the same time. Then readers are invited to post their reviews and join in discussions with other readers. A 25 voucher to spend at Shapla Tandoori Restaurant in Wymondham will be awarded for the most insightful review.

The promotion runs until the end of April.
