As England prepare for Wednesday's crunch semi-final with Croatia, a Three Lions fan from Norfolk has described the atmosphere on rival ground.
David Fletcher, 29 of Horsford, is holidaying in the country standing in the way of England’s first final since 1966, in Mlini, close to Dubrovnik.
Mr Fletcher, who is in the Croatian village with his wife Ria, sister Angela Hindle, brother-in-law Tom Hindle and two year-old nephew George, has been soaking in the World Cup atmosphere ahead of the big game on Wednesday.
He said: “Our hotel is very multinational and we watched the game on Saturday among some very polite Swedes. They looked almost shocked by our celebration of the goals.
“The Belgians roared when their team beat Brazil and the Germany fans have been ever so quiet.
“We have watched the Denmark and Russian victories for Croatia and it is very refreshing to see fans struggle as much as we have done with England over the years.”
Mr Fletcher’s holiday continues for the rest of the week, meaning he will be watching the big match from behind enemy lines.
He said: “The streets were turned red and white on Saturday and all the locals sat out to watch the game - the bar we went to on Sunday had run out of beer after the game.
“The wins were followed by flares and fireworks - they love their football here and I don’t think they will take defeat to England particularly well.”
