Emergency services were called out to rescue a woman from the River Wensum in Norwich today.

A Norfolk police spokesman said officers were alerted at about 10.40am to reports of a woman by the river at Riverside Road and that the fire service and ambulance service were also called to the incident.

The police spokesman said the woman was rescued from the water and checked over by paramedics.

Two fire crews - from Sprowston and Carrow - attended the incident and used a sled to rescue the woman.

The East of England Ambulance Service took the woman to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
