The emergency services were called to reports of a car on fire on the A47 at Brundall this evening.

Police and firefighters went to the scene but a fire service spokesman said the fire was a false alarm that had been caused by a mechanical fault on the vehicle.

A police spokesman said the incident had caused delays on the road but that the road was clear by about 8.30pm.

Two fire crews, from Hethersett and Earlham, attended.
