And such is their appeal, fans of miniature race cars gathered for the annual Presto Park Classic Race in Norfolk.

The contest on November 19 attracted 21 people from across Britain who battled it out on a 97 foot track, featuring five lanes, at the Presto Park Slot Club headquarters on Pound Farm, Hevingham.

Vehicles taking part in the 25-lap trials were based on Formula 1 models, saloons and sports/GT cars, dating from the 1960s until the early 1980s.

Mike Harvey, owner of the Presto Park Slot Club, said: 'We are petrol heads but cannot afford to do the real thing, so we race scale models of cars. They are scrutinised before the races and have to be spot on. A lot of the guys here are very competitive but it is very friendly too.'
