Eight people have fled and 16 have been detained after they were discovered in the back of a lorry on the A14, near Cambridge.

Cambridgeshire police were called at 9.31am by Essex Police, and in a statement confirmed they located the vehicle at approximately 10am on the A14 and that it has been pulled over into a layby on the just before Bar Hill, on the west bound carriageway.

A police spokesman said: '16 people have been detained and are receiving medical treatment. It is believed that eight people fled the scene and are outstanding.'

One lane has been closed on the M11 northbound at J14 and the A14 is currently closed westbound at J31 for M11 (Girton), causing long delays for motorists.
