The University of East Anglia will be holding an open event for anyone interested in a career in social work.
The event, on Monday, July 16, will give prospective students the chance to find out about undergraduate and postgraduate courses, meet academic staff, and gain expert advice on the application process, funding, and the wide-ranging career prospects available.
Social workers care for vulnerable people – from children and teenagers to elderly and disabled people, and those with mental health problems or addictions.
The university's social work BA and MA have been ranked ninth in the country in the Guardian League Table 2013. Teaching programmes focus on reflective practice and practical placements – providing students with essential hands-on experience and the skills to start work as confident and competent new social workers.
Prof Ann McDonald, from the school of Social Work and Psychology, said: 'Studying to become a professionally qualified social worker has fantastic benefits. As well as excellent employment prospects across the public and independent sectors, the personal satisfaction - in knowing that you are using your knowledge and skills for the benefit of the community – is very fulfilling.'
Students applying to study in 2012 can apply for a non-income assessed social work bursary via the NHS Business Services Authority. For the latest information about student and social work bursaries see www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Students.
The event takes place in the Thomas Paine Study Centre at UEA, with information sessions starting at 12.30pm and 6.30pm. For more information, email swp.ug.admiss@uea.ac.uk.
