UKIP members have suggested turning the Hewett into a grammar school or a state-run boarding school.
These were among the ideas raised as UKIP Norwich South candidate spoke for the first time about the future of the school, which is in special measures, and which ministers want to become an Inspiration Trust academy.
Steve Emmens said: 'It is a shame that County Hall was not allowed to work towards a successful outcome of the Hewett and the speed of the actions to academise the Hewett does seem on the face of it rather prompt.'
He said local members had discussed the situation, and added: 'One comment has suggested that returning the school back to a grammar school would lift numbers and attainment. Another went further by suggesting with the low roll call and the land available, we could seek to provide a state-run boarding school.'
