Two Norfolk academies have said they will not make their overall GCSE results public until the outcomes of a number of appeals are known.

Last year Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey, and Ormiston Venture Academy in Gorleston, recorded 73pc and 58pc of pupils gaining the government's gold standard respectively.

Both schools were given Ofsted's top 'outstanding' verdict when inspected in 2013.

Unlike most Norfolk schools, they chose not to release their results to the media last week.

An Ormiston Academies Trust spokesman said: 'Along with other schools we are waiting for a significant number of appeals and will be releasing our results when these have been finalised. Despite turbulence in the exam system this year, both schools have strong foundations and are looking forward to a very positive 2014-15.'

City Academy Norwich has adopted a similar approach.

An initial Norfolk County Council analysis of county-wide GCSE results suggested 54pc of pupils gained the government's gold standard - the same as last year - missing the council's target of 60pc, which was last year's national average.
