Students and staff at Foulsham Primary School, near Fakenham, are celebrating after the school was upgraded from satisfactory to good in its latest Ofsted report.

The report, published last week, comes at a time when many Norfolk schools are being downgraded by Ofsted following recent changes in the way the education watchdog now grades schools.

Headteacher Jenny Dowden said: 'I am extremely proud of the school, teachers, staff and pupils for all of their continued hard work.'

The report found how, in maths, more than half the pupils at Foulsham Primary School reached higher than the national average result for their age.

It said in English, the school exceeded the national average for 2013 and teaching of pupils was well supported with well planned lessons.

It added that pupils' behaviour was excellent and they displayed a thoughtful and considerate nature to one another.

The report added that a new library and a recently refurbished ICT suite offered the pupils and staff excellent resources and a vibrant approach to learning.

Oftsed concluded, to improve further and achieve an outstanding rating, the school needed to ensure that all lessons were planned with enough detail to ensure that work was closely matched to the needs of individuals and groups.

Ofsted said that pupils were not given regular opportunities to form opinions of how well they were doing and play a full part in their own improvement, and leaders did not consistently check the quality of teaching in order to further improve its quality.
