A green-fingered student at Sheringham High School has bagged a top award for his growing skills, in in a competition hosted by one of the UK's leading seed and agri-research companies.
Ryan Pemberton, who planted and maintained his own potato bed on the school's award-winning smallholding, The Patch, was presented with the Norfolk Schools Solana Potato Competition 'best yield' cup by the company's managing director, Craig Stephens, during an assembly for termly achievements.
Patch co-ordinator Michelle Angus, who runs sessions for three year groups studying horticulture, said Sheringham High hoped to continue its association with Solana UK.
She added: "All our students have shown a keen interest in the organic growing of fruit and vegetables, but it is especially gratifying when we get awards from outside agencies."
Sheringham High School horticulture teacher David Chandler handed out Solana UK tote bags and goodies to other Year 10 students involved in the competition.
