Students at Attleborough High School received a visit from local writer Steve Parker.

Mr Parker is a science writer and during the course of his career has written over 250 books, on a range of scientific subjects for a range of audiences.

During science lessons some groups of Year 8 and 9 students were given an insight into being a scientist, but not in a white coat. His talk included ways his science knowledge has helped him not just in his career but also in his everyday life, from understanding electrical equipment to pursuing various hobbies.

At lunchtime he spoke to students about his ambition to write a fiction book, based around his love of animals and the natural world. This talk was to inspire students to enter a competition where they can submit their own ideas for a great book.

The visit was part of Attleborough High School’s book week celebrations.

Carmina McConnell, Attleborough High School assistant headteacher said: “Since she joined the school a year ago, the library at Attleborough High has been a hive of inspirational activity under Kirsty Parker’s organisation. Visits from a range of writers and events such as these linked to book week and book awards have been a invaluable addition to the learning opportunities we provide here.”
